Useful Tips
Travel Tips
Before the Flight
- Buy a bottle of water before the flight and drink water regularly.
- Have a good nights rest the night before flying.
- Keep your carry-on as light as possible.
- Keep a sleeping bag liner, ear-plugs and eye covers with you so you can sleep in the airport if necessary.
- Keep a motion sensitive alarm on your luggage if you are going to sleep in the airport.
- Put all toiletries in a plastic bag before flying.
- Ask for window seats in advance (sometimes you have to check in early to get this) and check that they are not over the wing.
- Find out when luggage is checked in when you will get it back again.
- Remove the hardrive from the computer and carry it on you.
- Take any knives out of your carryon and put it into your luggage.
- Write your flight numbers on your hand.
- Fully charge your PDA before leaving and use a minimal power setting.
- Take public transport to and from the airport.
- Arrive at check-in dressed as a business man and politely ask if any business class seats are available.
- Have a good shave just before you leave.
- If your suitcase is black and normal looking, tie something bright onto the handle so it is easy to recognise on the baggage conveyor.
- Dont eat junk food of any kind 24hrs before leaving.
- Carry a backup of all important files on CD in your pocket.
- Dont carry food onto the plane. If you are hungry you can usually ask for a second round after they have served the meals.
- Check for the best seats on the flight at seatguru.com.
On the Plane
- Have a stock of vitamin C on hand and take them regularly.
- Be careful not to eat any areoplane food that you wouldnt normally eat.
- Ignore the on-flight entertainment (movies etc), because its not very good, and try to sleep/rest as much as you can, but be sure to catch all the sights out of the window when possible.
- Be one of the very last people to board the plane - you'll just have to wait on the plane anyway.
- Fill up your water bottle before landing.
- Go to the bathroom/toilet before the end of each flight, because you risk leaving your luggage unattended if you do this in the airport.
- Convert all the currency on you at the first available chance when you reach your final destination.
- Start thinking in the time-zone of your destination while on the plane.
- Before arriving at your final destination, get fully freshened up in the plane toilet.
- Walk around the plane every so often.
- Take your shoes off as soon as you first sit down (to avoid smelly feet a few hours later).
- Use plenty of deodorant before you leave.
- Dont be embarrassed to ask for penuts, biscuits, snacks etc, during the flight.
Stop Overs
- Spend your coins at the airport because they dont accept them for exchange at other countries.
- Have a Visa card handy.
- Use trolleys at airports as much as possible.
