Tricky Stuff

Push a large ball bearing, or large marble or round stone down the neck of a round balloon before hand, ask a child to catch it, but shake the ball around in the balloon first before throwing.

You need to practice this well before hand. Place 5c coin on the edge of a table with about an eighth sticking out, place a saucer with water in it about 10 to 15 centimetres away, bend down and blow the coin into the saucer. Blow just above the coin with a sharp puff, but do it quickly.

Place a saucer with a little water in it on the table and ask the kids to get the water into a glass without moving the saucer or sucking the water up and spitting it out or siphoning it. Crumple a piece of paper, light it and when it is well lit put it into the glass which you then turn upside down into the water.

Make a tiny hole in the side of a beaker, hold your finger over the hole, fill it with water to the brim and place a piece of card over the beaker. Twirl it round in a full circle over arm, and the water stays in the beaker even when upside down. Give it to one of the children to try and tell them to do it quickly before they see water leaking out, SPLASH!!! I suggest you try this outdoors.

Place a sheet or cloth cover on the floor and a newspaper sheet on that, have the kids sit in a circle, fill a small basin with flour and place a plate on top then turn it over so you have a flour castle. Place a 5c coin carefully on top of the flour. Take it in turns to slice away the flour with a table knife. Whoever is cutting the flour when it falls in has to get it out with their mouth.

Have the kids sit in a circle, a large slab of chocolate on a plastic plate in the middle and a knife and fork, and gloves, hat and scarf. Go round the circle throwing a dice if you get a 6 put the scarf , hat and gloves on and cut a square of chocolate off with the knife and fork and eat it before cutting another one. Immediately another 6 is called remove the clothes.

Make up a questionnaire of ten questions starting with easy moving on to difficult. The last question says 'Do not answer any questions sit still and wait until we finish, this is an obedience test'.

The instructions say 'You have 5 minutes to complete this test, answer the questions in order follow the instruction after number 5, read all questions before you start answering, write your name in the top right hand corner.

After question 5 instruct - When you have completed number 5 stand up and shout "I am up to number six six six" run and touch the (nearest) wall and back again.

Leave the test till the end of the lesson and tell them that they cannot have 5 minutes, as it is late, they will have to do whatever they can in two minutes. Don't worry about the time at all.

Place three coins a little way apart on table, hold one magnet above another disc magnet and drag it through the coins without it jumping together.
